Relationship therapy includes monogamous, open, and polyamorous configurations. The focus is on how the identified problem affects the relationship or relationships. The process involves exploration of dynamics that cause disconnection between or among those in relationship with each other. Therapy provides the structure for to develop awareness about how each partner is contributing to the problem. From there, we identify individual and shared values to guide choices each partner makes in how s/he shows up, improving communication and closeness even during moments of conflict.
On May 13, 2016, I presented at the Contemporary Relationships Conference, talking about the Acceptance & Commitment Therapy approach to relationship therapy. You can find the slides from my presentation here: Let Be and Be Loving_Intimacy for the Real World_Web Version
